Brief outline of PfR's intervention in Guatemala containing key data about the area of the beneficiaries in the Zacapa region.

There is a tendency in Guatemala towards development of economic activities which have significant environmental and social impacts (e.g. mining, palm oil, sugar cane, melon, oil) related to the signing of the Dominica Republic and Central America Free Trade Deal in 2004 (DR-CAFTA). Solutions to these problems are complicated by high levels of illiteracy among indigenous groups, low of access to health services, imbalance in gender relations.
