Vulnerability capacity assessment
The team of 7 people from ERCS and Borcha BAaRD assesses in this report the situation in the Boricha woreda. It describes local capacities and socio-economic conditions on the basis of four kebeles and provides recommendations on water, health and education.
Boricha woreda consists of 42 kebeles and is characterized by high temperature and low rainfall. Most of the areas are covered by low or limited vegetation, the area is also characterized by land degradation and rugged land which makes it vulnerable to high erosion. Deforestation becomes a common phenomenon in fact with no natural conservation practices. The population of the woreda is increasing which leads to decrease in farmland and deforestation. In 2000 the woreda suffered the most severe drought which led to the spread of malaria. Such diseases as meningitis, TB and water-borne diseases are also frequent.
